Nature Photographer of the Year 2023

For the eighth time in a row we’d like to welcome you to join the Nature Photographer Of The Year 2023 competition, powered by Nature Talks Photo Festival in the Netherlands. We kindly invite professional and non-professional photographers, of all ages, from all over the world, to join our contest again this year. We believe that we can show the beauty of nature worldwide by sharing the most amazing images you all make. If we learn to love nature, we’ll also protect her.
When you enter this nature photography contest you have the chance to become the Nature Photographer of the Year 2023 and win great prizes. But that’s not all, you’ll also support nature conservation. We have founded the Nature Talks Foundation (Stichting Nature Talks) to work with and support nature conservation organizations. So join today, show us your stunning images from this year, last year, or years back and become the Nature Photographer of the Year 2023 and also help us to take care of nature.
We have 13 categories, including a (free) youth category and the “Fred Hazelhoff Portfolio Award”. Feel free to submit and we hope to see your images between the finalists.
The award ceremony will be during our yearly Nature Talks Photo Festival in the weekend of the 11th and 12th of November 2023 in the Netherlands. We will show all the finalists, runners-up, category winners and of course the overall winner, the Nature Photographer of the Year 2023! The finalists and winning images will also be in a photo exhibition on the festival before this exhibition will be traveling through the Netherlands, Belgium and France. Share your passion! Join Nature Photographer of the Year (NPOTY) contest, a worldwide nature photo competition. Besides the prestigious title “Nature Photographer of the Year 2023” Total prize money will amount to €25,000.
In each category the jury will determine a winner, a runner-up and 3 highly commended. The winners of a category will receive €500 in prize money (in cash). The runner-ups will win prizes worth €250 (in products). The highly commended photographers receive the honour and encouragement. The winner of the youth category will receive a prize worth €250 (in products). The runner-up in this category will receive a prize worth €125 (in products).
In addition, from the 13 category winners the jury will choose one overall winner who may call himself or herself Nature Photographer of the Year 2023 (NPOTY). Next to the category prize, the overall winner will receive a prize to the value of €2,500 (in cash). This will give the overall winner €3,000 in prize money (in cash)!
All awarded images will be shown in the exhibition at the Nature Talks Photo Festival and in a traveling exhibition in the Netherlands, Belgium and France.
Besides all these prizes, there is the Fred Hazelhoff Award for the best portfolio. The winner receives a sum of €1,000 (in cash) as well as a bowl (award).
Total prize money will amount to €25,000, of which many large cash prizes, and many attractive photographic articles. We will give a continuous update on the prizes, so that there will be an upgrade for the winners next to the prizes already mentioned.
The award ceremony will take place during the Nature Talks Photo Festival 2023 on Saturday 11th November 2023 in the Chassé Theater in Breda, the Netherlands.
The Nature Photographer of the Year Contest 2023 is open for nature photographers worldwide, both professional and non-professional, young and old. The competition for the category of young photographers is open for youngsters who have not yet turned 18 on 21th of May 2023.

By entering the ‘Nature Photographer Of The Year’ contest, each photographer confirms that the photographs entered under his/her name is his/her original work, that he/she is the sole owner of the copyright and that there are no third-party claims.
It is his/her responsibility to obtain releases and consents in written form for publishing, exhibiting and using his/her image if any persons appear in the photograph or if objects in the photograph are subject to the rights of third parties.
The photographer is responsible for obtaining official permits when applicable.
The photographer may be held liable for any damage that the Nature Photographer of the Year Contest may experience due to the lack of necessary release forms or missing permits.
